Westcon Group Helps Resellers Take Advantage of E-Rate Funding

TARRYTOWN, NY, October 30, 2005—Westcon Group, Inc. announced that each of its divisions will be offering E-rate TeleTrack seminars during the month of November.  The seminar dates are November 7th and 9th and will cover all aspects of E-rate, the Federal grant program that supplies internet and telephony equipment to schools and libraries nationwide.   The training precedes the opening of the E-rate application window, which opens this year on November 14th and continues through February 7th, 2007.
The E-rate program is significant for education-oriented resellers because when schools apply for technology grants each year, they must append a reseller name to each application.  On approval of funding, the program pays the reseller directly.  Westcon Group’s TeleTrack series will educate resellers on the history of these types of grants, which product sets are eligible and how resellers can participate in a potentially very lucrative opportunity.
At the end of the TeleTrack seminars, resellers will able to look up applications from schools in their selling area participating in the E-rate program.

According to the Schools and Library division of the Federal Communications Commission, $2.25 billion in funds are allocated for the E-rate program each year, with over 24,000 schools nation-wide participating in the program.

Ronald Sheps, vertical markets manager of Westcon Group and a recognized authority on E-rate funding, commented: “These TeleTracks are a great opportunity for resellers to gain tactical information on which schools are seeking networking and telephony solutions, and how to secure government funds on an expedited basis. By attending our TeleTracks, resellers learn how they can become more successful by becoming an active participant in the E-rate application process.”

During the November 9th seminar, Funds For Learning, LLC, the nation’s largest full-service E-rate consulting practice, will provide insight on how to get paid by the government faster: “Any reseller that has done business in the education vertical knows that getting paid on-time and on a predictable basis is a challenge,” said Cathy Cruzan, director of client operations, Funds for Learning.  “During Westcon’s timely TeleTrack seminar, we will address this issue head-on and deliver concrete strategies to overcome this issue.”

Frank Spaeth, chief operating office of Rancho Cucamonga, CA-based NIC, Inc., added, “We look to Westcon to shed light on the federal funding mechanisms that are available in education, most notably, E-rate.  By providing this kind of detailed information on a regular basis, they enable us to focus our own resources on sales versus research.”
