Westcon Helps Small Disadvantaged Businesses Access $14 Billion Federal Opportunity via ConvergenceP

Tarrytown, NY, May 2, 2007 – Westcon Group, Inc., the world’s leading specialty distributor in networking, security, mobility and convergence, announced that qualified SDB (Small Disadvantaged Business) partners of its Westcon practice in North America can access special credit options as well as a wide array of enhanced training and technical support through its ConvergencePoint SMB program. These enhancements have been put in place to help resellers understand and take advantage of the multi-billion dollar opportunity that exists for SDBs.

Last year alone, $14.3 billion of the federal IT budget was set aside for SDBs--much of this was never accessed for various reasons including lack of expertise, financial challenges and insufficient product access. Through ConvergencePoint SMB, in tandem with Nortel’s SDB Prime program, Westcon hopes to attract and arm qualified SDBs to take advantage of 2006 set aside funds.

“Each month, we offer training at Nortel’s Federal office to benefit SDB partners,” commented Stuart Schwartzreich, director of Federal programs, Westcon Group. “These regular courses are available to all of our government-oriented VARs and the goal is simple: to help our customers assess areas of IT opportunity in the government market and to help them identify tactics to set themselves apart when presenting solutions.”
Westcon also announced that it will be offering Nortel Government Solutions Professional Services directly to its government resellers, enabling its customers to access first-rate professional services offerings in combination with its government-centric line of hardware and software solutions.

“The addition of Nortel Government Solutions Professional Services is an important new strategic component to Westcon's Federal Edge Program as well as Nortel's SDB Prime program,” commented Bill O’Neill, vice president of Nortel Government Solutions. “This program provides our federal reseller partners with the capability to deliver lucrative services offerings they might not otherwise had the ability to provide.”

Nortel Government Solutions Professional Services include planning and design services, integration and installation services, maintenance, management and security services, optimization and upgrade services. By accessing Nortel Government Solutions and Westcon’s Federal Edge, resellers can deliver a single, turnkey solution to their federal end-users. This can be a major competitive advantage for SDBs since they can significantly scale their offerings within the federal market.

“Westcon’s expertise and credit support helped us win business from a well-known government end-user: the Michigan Army National Guard,” commented Bill Bowmer, president of Imlay City, Mi-based Aero-Tech, a service disabled/veteran-owned SDB and partner of Westcon and Nortel Government Solutions. “Without Westcon’s flexible financing options and engineering support and Nortel’s Government Solutions Professional Services offerings, this could not have happened. Additionally, since Westcon is a sponsored agent of Nortel’s GSA schedule, they were able to help us accommodate the officer’s request of placing this on a government-recognized contractual vehicle.”
